Juice fasting is an excellent way to lose weight and build a healthy foundation in which you can drastically change your life style for the better. Add to that a well researched exercise routine and you are well on you way to reaching your fitness dreams.
Before making any changes to your diet you should talk to your doctor.
Juice fasting is a detoxification process which can last anywhere from 3 days to over a month. For best results include exercise and cut calories to minimum 1500 for men and 1200 for women. Don't go below these numbers, in fact a little higher is actually better. For weight loss, I personally lost 15 lbs in a little over 1 week while on a very strict 1500 calorie juice fast, but I was also exercising like a mad man every day, including running, walking, squats, push ups, sit ups, yoga, and more.
First, there is a few things you should know. There is a difference between pasteurized store bought juice, flash pasteurized refrigerator only store bought juice, and fresh juice you made at home with either a juicer or hand squeezed device.
All store bought juice is pasteurized, a method in which the juice is heated over 150 degrees which kills all bacteria so the juice can stay fresh on the shelves and avoid dangerous salmonella or e. coli outbreaks. Unfortunately this process also kills off almost everything good you find in fruit and vegetable juice including both vitamins, minerals, and enzymes.
Even the freshest of store bought juice that requires refrigeration which is more expensive and sold in the healthier parts of the store is pasteurized in a process called flash pasteurization. This process heats up the juice in a much shorter amount of time and sometimes even uses less heat but still kills off all the good stuff in juice.
While fasting out all solids and sticking to juice, your body relies on the vitamins minerals, and enzymes in the fresh fruit juice to fuel and repair it's self properly. If you choose to fast on store bought juice you risk building up such deficiencies.
