Having a Goal oriented approach to life is perhaps one of the best ways to achieve your dreams and every thing you want out of life. Almost everyone has dreams, hope for a better future, or perhaps just a cool new car they want, but usually there is some obstacle in the way of achieving that dream or future.
This obstacle can either be time, money, or a personal problem. Using a goal oriented problem solving approach, and incorporating that goal using symbols into your every day life is perhaps the most powerful tool we have to achieving our dreams.
Let's start out with one of the most basic goals someone might have. Say they wish to be successful, attractive, popular, and sophisticated, but there are a few obstacles in the way. They are broke, overweight or out of shape, and suffer in networking with other people because of the first two problems. Ever try to show up at a sophisticated dinner party with a torn suit?
These three obstacles can seem like dream crushers at first, but by using a simple problem solving approach they can easily be over come. The first problem is time. It's going to take time to both get your self in shape, and make some money. How much time is it going to take? Not a lot when you really think about it. So how do you conquer time? Symbolize it and use it to your advantage in a positive way.
A good way to symbolize time is to perhaps draw or put a paper clock on your door or room with a positive message attached to it. For example inside the clock you can write "You have all the time in the world". Another age old good method is to start a journal or calender. Put the journal on your door, fridge, or somewhere you have to look at constantly everyday.
Now flip 3 months ahead or what ever date you chose to be the completion of the time goal and mark it as such, then simply start crossing off the days.
Tip: By placing your symbols like calenders where you have to look at them every days increases your chances for success by implanting the goal and image inside both your conscious and subconscious mind. This way even when you aren't consciously thinking about the goal your subconsciousness mind is still trying to achieve it!
The next issue is money. Money seems to be the hardest goal for people to achieve because it's something everyone wants and doesn't give away for free. You usually have to work for your money or be very lucky, but also you should work smartly towards you money by choosing jobs which pay more or allow you plenty of time with another money project like a business. Next problem is saving the money, which is hard for a lot of people.
You should symbolize around your home and room both symbols involving making money, and saving money to implant them both in your conscious and sub conscious mind. You can hang up pictures with stacks of 100 dollar bills, but up $ signs everywhere, and write little messages like "Be cheap, you don't really need this, and wouldn't it be better if you saved the money instead of buying that." These symbols will help your subconsciousness mind fight your compulsive conscious mind when it comes to purchases you don't really need.
The last obstacal in your way is always the most daunting for so many people. It's the personal obstacal, or the change in life style obstacal. You would be surprised how many people walk around in our prospering nation saying to them selves every day "I can't do that, or I will never be famous, or I don't think" These people are already convinced they can't improve their life. The self doubt that's in you that says you can't open up a million dollar busniess, or the next greatest invention, is probably a realistic instinct which is thousands of years old.
Thousands of years ago it was a lot more dangerous for humans to take chances. If we decided to hunt at a different area, travel a different trail, or farm another crop the consequence could easily be death of both you and the tribe. I'm guessing this is where this instinct came from and why it is so strong even today preventing people from accomplishing their dreams.
People today are fell fed to the point of obesity, have average jobs, and not to many of us in the modern world are worried about starving ourselves to death, yet we still don't take many chances or changes in life because there is a self doubt instinct telling you, "you can't do it, or Well I don't know."
Let me be the first to tell you, you can do it, and if you don't you won't starve to death. This instinct served it's purpose well in terms of our ancestors with survival but it has no use in todays modern world. Now is the time to be taking chances for a better life. Now is the time to accomplish what other people and even your own self denial have told you it's impossible.
So we need to symbolize a few things. Taking chances, embracing change, and a can do attitude. A good way for me is both words in conjunction with pictures. Perhaps a picture of a person looking up at a huge city stating some positive message like I will be successful here. Anything creative you can put in writing and or picture format and past it somewhere you have to look at everyday will further increase your odds for achieving your goals.
These problem solving tools can be used to accomplish almost any goal from money to health and fitness, or a new car. Just follow the steps. Picture a goal in your head, write it down on a piece of paper to find out whats required in accomplishing it "Time, money personal issues" then symbolize those things with pictures and words around the house to remind yourself everyday what you want and need to accomplish.
This is by far the best way to achieve any goal.
